Any other ADHDer's out there? tips and tricks?

I was late diagnosed with ADHD (inattentive + hyperfocus) when COVID hit, and I couldn’t maintain job + teaching 1st grade/pre school + home life.

Once diagnosed, the world clicked for me, and all my quirks made sense

I hypothesize that many sellers also have ADHD and are attracted to sales because of the flexibility to seek that “feel good” dopamine hit with tangible financial rewards (great meeting, hunting and closing new deals, expansion, energy off of people etc).

After most of my sales career in the field (medical devices in the operating room), i’ve been back to my desk in software for just over a year. With all the day to fill, I can find myself going down deep rabbit holes trying to craft the “perfect email reply” or going down deep in the weeds on research in prep for a meeting.

So if you’re like me, would love to hear the tips and tricks you employ to stay on task and get things done more efficiently. I do the following:

  • daily list, weekly list
  • calendar block all my whitespace in a day with my critical activities and then i add overflow blocks when I just need a little more time
  • set timers for everything …and timers on timers…

While not diagnosed w/ ADHD, this topic resonates because I related to some of what you said you experience.

@amy.demmler, my main tactics to overcome distractions relate to making lists and importing Into Gcal. I block off my calendar in 15 min increments. If a 15 min block can accommodate multiple tasks, I list them in that block. If I need more than 15 min blocks, I extend for the task at hand.

This gets me thinking of how long things take to get done, and gives me the opportunity to prioritize my to do list in order throughout the day. It’s a one-stop shop of what I need to get done, and helps me complete everything by the time I want to sign off for the day.

Daily and weekly list helps me a lot. Still working on narrowing it down since they’re often ambitious. Really trying to zero in on: What are 3 things I need to accomplish today that makes the day a win for me?

Any momentum gained in the morning helps, having snacks/meals ready helps (forgetting to eat when I’m in the zone is an issue for me).

I’m also going to look into one of those office chairs that you can maneuver for different sitting positions!
